OPERATING WITH THE INTERNET REMOTING TOOLKIT

The IRT is intended to operate in either a HOST or a CLIENT mode. The software is the same and is customized for each job by set up menu. After choosing the HOST or CLIENT option it is best to save that value and then close and restart the IRT application. All of the built-in controls (found under the CONTROL menu) work on either the HOST or CLIENT. Thus you can use the IRT to totally control your host and the hardware, e.g. rotator, connected to the HOST computer.

Before connecting to the HOST, you must enter the HOST IP/URL via the SETUP menu and then select it in the drop-down list.

Operations are designed to be ÒAS AUTOMATIC AS POSSIBLEÓ.  For example, starting TRX Manager, Ham Radio Deluxe, the built-in WebCVR interface  should automatically try to connect the CLIENT to the HOST. Also the IP-Sound can be set up as automatic, thus having a ONE-BUTTON startup including sound. The overall strategy is ÒautomaticÓ in order to make the response as close to an actual Òlocal operation.

Note that when using the CONENCT button on the main IRT display, the previous setup of CONTROL windows will automatically reappear, i.e. any CONTROL window visible when the DISCONNECT button or the IRT terminate button (the top right X) will be remembered and pop up in the same place when the CONNECT button is pushed.  ALL windows can be resized to compensate for computer-to-computer variations in display sizes.

When using the TS480 front panel, clicking on the panel power ON button will automatically connect and bring up the other windows and sound. Clicking on the power OFF will terminate both the equipments and the Internet session.

I have included 8 built-in CONTROL interfaces as part of the IRT package. These were generated to suit my own operating habits using the W7KW remote, so address both theTS480 radio control and the control of the additional equipments often found at a large station.  These are included for your convenience, but may not satisfy your own full operational needs and can be replaced by any other ham or commercial software package which provide a direct serial interface to the equipments.  Further details for each included CONTROL is  provided on separate pages assessable by clicking the pictures below. Note that some of these CONTROLS are Kenwood-radio specific (e.g. Radio Control Interface, CW Keyboard).  In general these provide the basic capabilities to operate remote CW, SSB, and Digital modes, but do not address specialized needs such as contesting, DXCC statistics, two radio operations. If you no other suitable program and wish some additional features to be included in these built-in controls, then ask. Even better, I can give you the Visual Basic source and you can augment the control yourself.
